Keep your students from tripping at the finish line

finish line

We know you've been telling your students about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for some time, but there's more to talk about. There are two key things, in fact:  (a) they need to know about the FSA ID, a new login process that takes effect May 10, and (b) they need to not trip at the finish line and miss out on financial aid! In some cases, students may have delayed completion because their parents had yet to file taxes, but by now that's probably been resolved.

FSA ID

For students who've already completed the FAFSA (or have started the process but not yet completed it), the new FSA ID will replace the Federal Student Aid PIN as the way to access federal student aid information. Your students can find out all about the new login process through this handy and accessible resource from the Federal Student Aid website. Why the change? The new process is more secure, and students will find it an improved overall navigation experience.

Money for college

Even for those who have completed the process, it's a good idea to check and make sure that the FAFSA application has gone through. And for students who've delayed completing (or even starting) the FAFSA process, it's still a good idea to do so. Why? Because they may be eligible for financial aid that they won't have access to any other way.

For students hoping to begin college next school year who didn't exactly swing into action as far as FAFSA, these informative videos from the Department of Education can provide a good overview. By the way, we've also got lots of useful information right here on AIE.
